Welcome to Evergreen
Welcome to Evergreen Colorado, setting for the book Feather of a Storm.
Nestled in the foothills, thirty miles west of Denver, Colorado, lies the blue spruce and pine forested township of Evergreen.
It's mild during summer and, although it snows over winter, it rarely rains — something about a rain shadow, the Continental Divide acting as a barrier and limiting the rainfall that makes it over the mountains to the Colorado Front Range. So while it is close to many places that receive forty inches of rain per year, Evergreen averages only fifteen.
The beauty of the area is spectacular: snowcapped mountains in winter, and forest that changes color with the seasons. It's a truly stunning part of the world.
Evergreen
The map of Evergreen shows the Heirloom Inn Hotel where Livia Armstrong lives with her mother (the general manager of the hotel), Evergreen High School, the Lakehouse Lookout, and of course, the Sutherlands' home.
The Sutherlands live just off Upper Bear Creek Road, at the end of a dead end street. Their long driveway winds through forest to the heart of their vast property, surrounded by pine forest and one hundred year old elms.
Sutherland House Plan
Gil has drawn up blueprints of the house, which you can check out here. Behind the house are two acres of garden, which Rebecca lovingly cares for. And if you choose to venture farther, a track leads to a small airstrip where Emery keeps a plane. For Spirit Walker emergencies, I guess.
